Tenryuji Temple

In the Arashiyama district of Kyoto, Tenryuji is the most significant temple. It was ranked first among the city's five great Zen temples, and it is now registered as a world heritage site. Tenryuji is the principal temple of its school, which belongs to the Rinzai Zen sect of Japanese Buddhism.
Tenryuji's garden has remained unchanged for centuries, unlike the temple buildings. The landscape garden was designed by the renowned garden designer Muso Soseki, who also created the gardens of Kokedera and other significant temples, and it is surrounded by a central pond that is surrounded by rocks, pine trees, and the forested Arashiyama mountains.

Sagano Bamboo Groves

Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, or Sagano Bamboo Forest, is situated on the Katsura River, not far from the renowned Togetsukyo Bridge. A walk through this forest of giant bamboos takes around 500 meters, making it a short but memorable experience. The bamboos achieve a unique and photogenic landscape by reaching dizzying heights.
During the Heian period, Japanese nobility used to visit this historic site. Today, the bamboo grove has become a symbol of Kyoto, along with the Fushimi Inari and Kiyomizu-dera temples.
